Matt Carter was recently awarded Gold for Best Editing at the Ciclope Festival for spearheading Nas’ ‘Ugly’ music video as director and editor. Matt has a deep-rooted appreciation for music and an innate grasp of pacing, rhythm and tone. His editorial process requires a high level of craft, attentiveness, observation and intentionality that results in pieces that often feel youthful, urgent and stirring yet authentic, purposeful and thoughtful. There are undercurrents of lyricism and spirituality in all of his work.

Matt operates in unique intersections of advertising and music where he has collaborated with brands such as Nike, Adidas, Cash App and Square as well as illustrious artists including Nas, Jon Batiste, J. Cole, Ari Lennox, Lil Yachty, A$AP Ferg, Gunna, Lil Baby, Gallant, Daniel Caesar, Gus Dapperton, Indigo De Souza, Shabazz Palaces, Riz Ahmed and more.

He loves teaming up with directors, agencies and production companies in trusting spaces where things are grounded, open and honest. Ongoing director partnerships include Jared Malik Royal at RSA Films, Hidji at Little Minx, ILLIMITÉWORLD at Love Song and Bram VanderMark.

Matt lives in New York and is represented on the Final Cut roster.
